On August 31, 2011, OCR reached agreement with the George Washington University regarding the University’s handling of allegations and reports of sexual assault and harassment on campus. The University agreed to revise its policies, procedures and investigative practices to provide a grievance procedure that ensures prompt and equitable resolution of sexual harassment and sexual assault allegations; develop on-going training programs for employees and students regarding Title IX, the University’s obligations under Title IX, the University’s procedures for addressing sexual violence, resources available to students who believe they have been sexually assaulted, and information about OCR and its authority to enforce Title IX; establish a diverse student committee to identify and recommend strategies to assist students to understand their rights under Title IX, how to report a Title IX violation, and the University’s obligations under Title IX; and conduct annual climate checks with University students to assess the effectiveness of the University’s actions to fulfill its obligations under Title IX. The agreement also provided individual relief to the student who filed the complaint.
