Program Description
The Floresville ISD Character Education Project will implement the Link Crew Program, a program organized to train older students to be leaders and mentors and positive role models to freshmen students. The Link Crew Program will be supplemented with additional services by counselors, to support traditionally underrepresented middle school students transitioning to high school. Service learning classes will be offered at the middle school and high school. The project will offer professional development training in the 40 Developmental Assets, and Smart and Good High Schools. Project personnel will develop, model, provide training in, and implement a 48-lesson character curriculum to integrate into all Pre-K through 12th grade core-content classes. The project will serve approximately 3,500 students and 235 teachers in five schools.
- To increase student and teacher character-trait knowledge and awareness through instruction in the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship in coordination with state-mandated academic curriculum
- To help students contribute to the community and enhance character traits through service- learning projects
- To serve as a character education model by providing youth with a caring environment that supports the integration of excellence and ethics in all phases of life
- To improve student achievement by creating a caring school environment with the support of the parents and community members
Evaluation Design
This project will conduct an experimental evaluation design. Floresville will use random assignment and matched comparison-random design methods. Where there are insufficient student numbers to follow this design, a pre-post test control group design will be used. In situations where randomization is not possible, an interrupted time-series design will be used.
