Program Description
Project CAN will implement the CHARACTER COUNTS!™ curriculum in all classrooms and will collaborate with community partners to provide mentoring, after-school services, drug and violence prevention programming, and parenting skills training. CHARACTER COUNTS!™ consultants and site coordinators at each school will provide training to teachers and athletics coaches. The project will serve approximately 7,768 students in grades K-12 and approximately 500 teachers and staff in 13 schools.

Evaluation Design
Project CAN will conduct a quasi-experimental research study using a comparison group. The school district will collect quantitative data through the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) to compare pre-post academic performance measures, and will use discipline referrals and police calls for school service for disciplinary problems to compare pre-post.
