Objectives: To provide services which will identify and increase literacy skills of all inmates who function at or below an eighth grade level.
Procedures: Through Project LEAD, Genesee County Jail will conduct academic testing, assessment and basic education through computer assisted instruction, life skills development, group and individual counseling, tutoring,
community-based referrals and follow-up tracking.
Outcomes/Results/Products: Assist six hundred and sixty-eight (668) inmates over a two-year period to improve life skills, motivation, and academic development. Develop referral linkages and a follow-up tracking system with local and state correctional institutions. Evaluate, document and disseminate the impact of the program model and its components. Dissemination includes publications, on-site visits, program overview summary, presentations and technical assistance.
