Objectives: To provide comprehensive education programs that combine traditional teaching methods with computer technologies to increase functional literacy levels, encourage participation in GED programs, meet the basic standard for entry into vocational training programs, and provide language skills training to non-English speaking inmates or those with limited English proficiency.

Procedures: This project centers around the expansion of four existing computer integrated learning labs as well as establishing three new labs. A total of 58 student computer stations will be available to inmates during education classes. Classroom instruction will include: basic literacy, GED, ABE, life and employability skills, English as a second language, parenting, and substance abuse education.

Outcomes/Results/Products: This project will include a process and outcome evaluation to assess the operation and implementation of the program and to specifically measure the impact of computer integrated learning on the functional literacy levels of the inmate population. Project results will be disseminated through the publication of a manual, professional journal publications, and panel presentations at correctional conferences.
