OBJECTIVES: To provide short-term incarcerated adults (100 per month) with Employability Assessment, targeted instructional services, and community linkage for continued training and education.

PROCEDURES: Each project participant will receive intensive assessment consisting of the Employment Competency Assessment, the L.I.C.O., L.D. Assessment, and the test for Adult Basic Education. These assessments will be used to develop an individual Employment/Training Plan. The plan will feature specific competency remediation and an intervenient featuring peer tutoring, CAI, instructional television services, and traditional classroom activities. Finally, each short-tern inmate will complete a transitional program and be linked with community agencies for follow-up and employment.

OUTCOMES/RESULTS/PRODUCTS: Increased employability skills for short stay inmates, increased educational awareness, increase training and completion rates and increased employment rates. To evaluate, document, and disseminate the affect of the program. Development of procedures manual, publication and presentation of articles and research findings.

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL(S): Below 8.0 grade level on National Recognized Literacy Assessment
