NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP for EXCELLENCE
and ACCOUNTABILITY in TEACHING (NPEAT)

The National Partnership for Excellence and Accountability in Teaching (NPEAT) was formed through an OERI contract with the University of Maryland. NPEAT is a consortium of 29 major national education organizations and prominent researchers of the teaching profession at a dozen universities and research agencies. Its purpose is to engage in collaborative research-based action to place the improvement of teaching at the center of efforts to improve schools.

NPEAT's work will advance the U.S. Department of Education's goal to have a talented, dedicated and well-prepared teacher in every classroom.

NPEAT has focused its activities around three major issues:

During calendar year 2000, reports in all of these areas will become available to the public For additional information contact: Harold Himmelfarb, OERI Project Officer, at (202) 219-1376.
