Research & Development

The Institute supports a wide range of research activities designed to improve student learning in the core content areas. Major components of our work include:

National R&D Centers

Centers conduct sustained research and development initiatives that address nationally significant problems and issues in education. Centers are located at universities, which receive five-year grant awards.

Field-Initiated Studies Grants

Field-Initiated studies (FIS) grants are awarded for up to three years to support educational research projects. Topics and methods of study are generated by the investigators.

Standards Grants The Institute monitors a variety of grant programs designed to improve education, including work in content standards, professional development, and assessment.
OtherR&D Efforts The Institute is playing a major role in ensuring the quality and utility of educational research designed to improve student achievement.
