Matthew Yale was appointed in January 2009 as deputy chief of staff for the secretary of education. Prior to assuming this position, Yale was vice president of public affairs at Ariel Investments in Chicago from April 2001 through January 2009. He managed the company's foundation, Ariel Education Initiative, and directed the firm's civic, government and political affairs. He also was the lead writer and researcher for Ariel's president's financial reporting on ABC News' Good Morning America and World News Tonight.
Prior to his work at Ariel Investments, Yale was an analyst at the Chicago-based investment banking firm Billow Butler & Company. He has been a guest on Fox News and Fox Business.
Yale earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Northwestern University and his M.B.A. from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management. He lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife, Debra, and their daughter, Lila.
