Ordering Video Tapes / Archives

Since 1993, the U.S. Department of Education has produced the Satellite Town Meeting, the monthly television program on school reform. The live broadcast features the good news in education, showing how schools and communities are working together to improve teaching and learning.

Over the years, nearly 300 individuals and programs have been highlighted on the Satellite Town Meeting, sharing thousands of practical ideas and suggestions on building community partnerships, strengthening parent involvement, improving classroom practices, and connecting with youth. Hailing from Maine to Alaska, the featured guests - teachers, principals, business leaders, health and safety officials, superintendents, elected leaders and others - have helped our audiences to appreciate the best ideas about what works in schools and communities.

The Satellite Town Meeting always features the topics of critical concern to educators and parents today. Subjects such as reading, math, technology and school safety are repeated annually with a changing emphasis each year. Other programs have focused on pre-schools, students with disabilities, school leadership, middle schools, and other current issues. The enduring nature of these subjects makes many of the live programs relevant long after the actual broadcast.

Ordering Video Tapes

How can I order a videotape of a past Satellite Town Meeting?

While supplies last, copies of the most recent programs are available free of charge. Tapes are usually ready for distribution 10-14 days after the original broadcast. The videotapes are available in the following formats:

VHS tapes in English
VHS tapes dubbed in Spanish
?" tapes in English (for television stations)
?" tapes dubbed in Spanish (for television stations)

All videos are closed-captioned. Permission is granted to broadcast, duplicate and distribute all programs. We ask that you return the video when finished so that we may continue to distribute it to other communities. Please note that videos are generally NOT re-ordered when supplies are depleted.

Satellite Town Meeting videos produced and broadcast in the past year may be ordered online at EDPUBs or by calling 1-877-4-ED-PUBS. See the Satellite Town Meeting archives for specific program titles.

Television stations without satellite capability can receive Satellite Town Meeting videos every month for broadcast, by sending a request to Satellite.Town.Meeting@ed.gov . Requests should include a full mailing address and format (VHS, ?") preference.

Satellite Town Meeting Archives

Past schedules of the Satellite Town Meeting are available for research and archival purposes. Only programs produced in the past twelve months are usually available for ordering.
