Scholarships

  • MBRS RISE Scholarship: Minority Biomedical Research Support (MBRS), Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE) is a student development program for minority-serving institutions. The goal of the program is to increase the number of students from groups underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research who complete Ph.D. degree programs in these fields. Applications may be submitted by domestic postsecondary, minority-serving institutions that have more than 50 percent student enrollment from groups underrepresented in biomedical or behavioral research. The applicant institution must award the associate, baccalaureate, master's, or doctoral degree in biomedical or behavioral science fields. Fellowships

  • Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship: The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) is an internship program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy to provide opportunities to women and underrepresented minority students who are pursuing academic majors related to the Fossil Energy mission. The Office of Fossil Energy (FE) -- Headquarters, Field Offices and National Laboratories -- offers 10-week summer internships to qualified students to gain hands-on experience, and offers an insider's view to the Federal government.   • National Human Genome Research Institute Intramural Health Disparities Postdoctoral Fellowship
    The fellowship is intended to provide a promising recent doctoral-level graduate the opportunity to use genetic and genomic approaches to advance the growing area of health disparities research. Health disparities research programs involve not only basic, clinical, or behavioral research related to health disparity populations and the medically underserved, but also strive to create a diverse group of genetic and genomic scientists who engage in such research.   • Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) Emerging Leaders Internship Program
    The CBCF Emerging Leaders Internship Program is a semester-long paid internship for college students. Interns work four days a week on Capitol Hill, in federal agencies and at non-profit organizations. Please see the Program Application for further information.

  • Secretary Chu Announces up to $12.5 Million in Recovery Act Funding for New Graduate Fellowships in Science, Mathematics and Engineering
    Up to $12.5 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be awarded in early 2010 to support at least 80 graduate fellowships to U.S. students pursuing advanced degrees in science, mathematics, and engineering through the newly created Department of Energy Office of Science Graduate Fellowship program. The goal of the fellowship program is to encourage outstanding students to pursue graduate degrees in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, engineering, and environmental and computer sciences — fields that will prepare students for careers that can make significant contributions in discovery driven science and science for national needs in energy and the environment.   • IIPP International Affairs Fellowship
    The UNCFSP Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP) is one of the nation's premier fellowship programs in global affairs for underrepresented students. The comprehensive education and training elements prepare IIPP Fellows to address the most pressing international policy problems.
