A nationwide initiative to encourage and support family and
community involvement in improving children's learning. Started by U.S. Secretary of
Education Richard W. Riley in 1994, America Goes Back to School is sponsored by the
Partnership for Family Involvement in Education, a growing grassroots movement of
thousands of family-school partner, community organizations, businesses, and religious
groups working together to support family and community involvement in children's
learning. |

Join, begin or support a partnership in your community that focuses on improving
children's learning. Help stage a public event that shows how important education is to
Americans of all ages. It doesn't matter how big or small your local America Goes Back to
School event is. It doesn't matter what kind of event your community holds. What matters is that you and your partners use the
opportunity to show your support for better education and to encourage others in your
community to get involved.

Your America Goes
Back To School event and partnership can: 1) raise awareness about education issues in
your community; 2) uncover effective and innovative solutions to these and other issues in
your community; and 3) take action through strong, local partnerships for learning.

Secretary Riley, the Partnership for Family Involvement in
Education, and the America Goes Back to School Steering Committee invite you and your
organization to play a leading role in the fourth annual America Goes Back to School
initiative. We invite you to choose one
or several of the Five Key Areas in Education to highlight in your
community. You can work with your local schools, colleges, and community, religious, and
employer groups to plan activities that will focus on one or more of these areas. We join
the many local schools who invite you to visit via their local WWW sites. |
